About
These booklets (other than those designated RT or NR) were produced by the Civil Engineering Conference, a joint effort between Railtrack and various rail contractors. Some of these booklets were published while Railtrack was in railway administration, a handful were published after Network Rail replaced Railtrack. The most recent booklet available in print was published in 2004.
These booklets remain a useful resource, and are still used in training, but do not always represent current best practice — current standards and guidance must always take precedence.
Print copies of these booklets can still be obtained from Heron Press.
Copyright
The imprint in each booklet (with two exceptions, see below) states that the author's intent is to permit free copy and distribution, and that no action will be taken under copyright law.
Exceptions
- RT/PWG/002 — Contains no copyright notice.
- RT/PWG/003 — Copyright notice in imprint states that reproduction or disclosure to third parties is prohibited without prior written permission.
Changes made
Each booklet is scanned in its entirety, including the front cover, back cover, and any blank pages. Any pages which consist entirely of a single colour have been replaced with a block colour PNG to reduce the overall file size.

Notes
- a — My introduction to NR/PWG/001 and RT/PWG/003 were lower-quality scans (These are: NR/PWG/001, RT/PWG/003)
- b — The video referenced in the imprint of RT/PWG/003 and on page 12 of CEC/DG/001 is Repair of Wet Beds (Youtube link)
- c — These are available in digital format from RailEI's website (RailEI is formerly known as the PWI). The images are unfortunately poor quality, and many diagrams are unusable (These are: CEC/DG/002 CEC/DG/004, CEC/DG/005, CEC/DG/009, and CEC/DG/010)
- d — CEC/DG/004 and CEC/DG/010 aren't numbered in print, but are numbered in the versions available on RailEI's knowledge hub. I've therefore numbered them accordingly.
Other CEC documents
These are referenced in the CEC booklets available in print, but it's unlikely I'll be able to obtain any of these.
